Hypertension

Also known as high blood pressure, hypertension occurs when the body’s smaller blood vessels narrow, causing the blood to exert excessive pressure against the vessel walls and forcing the heart to work harder to maintain the pressure. It can cause damage to your blood vessels and organs, especially the brain, heart, eyes, and kidneys.

Hypertension does not discriminate when it comes to age. Nearly 1 in 4 adults between the ages of 20 to 44 currently suffer from high blood pressure. Approximately half of all Americans, will be diagnosed with high blood pressure at some point in their lives.

Hypertension is usually a silent disease; many people don’t experience any symptoms unless they’re incredibly severe. Many with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it, which can be incredibly dangerous as high blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke and can also contribute to other health issues.
