Osteoarthritis of the Knees

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, occurring when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones wears down over time. It can damage any joint but is most prevalent in hands, knees, hips, and spine. Osteoarthritis of the knee, specifically, can be hereditary or due to injury, infection, or even being overweight. Current treatments include weight loss, exercise, pain relievers, corticosteroids, and the use of devices like a brace.

Symptoms include pain that increases when you are active, swelling, feeling of warmth in the knee joint, stiffness in the knee, decrease in mobility of the knee, and a creaking or crackly sound when the knee moves.
