Resistant Hypertension - AGA Clinical Trials

Resistant hypertension is high blood pressure that does not respond to aggressive medical treatment (take 3 different blood pressure medications). Resistant hypertension increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. Hypertension is considered resistant when all of the following are true:

someone is taking 3 different blood pressure medications at their max tolerated doses; of those blood pressure medications is a diuretic;
blood pressure remains above your goal;
if hypertension requires 4+ medications to be controlled. Twenty percent of patients with hypertension are resistant.
