Pediatric Migraine Clinical Trials

Our clinical trials explore new treatments to help ease the severe symptoms of migraines. They bring a sense of normalcy back to young patients. We test both oral and IV treatments to find the best ways to manage migraines in children. Brainstorming new medications and methods of delivery helps us create effective and well-tolerated therapies that can greatly improve the quality of life for young people with migraines.

    Pediatric Migraine

    Investigational Treatments

Our pediatric migraine trials focus on two main types of treatments. These include:

    Oral Medications

Oral medications are usually the first choice for treating pediatric migraines. They can be taken when a migraine starts to help relieve symptoms. In our trials, we may test:

    • Rimegepant: An oral medication approved for adults, now being studied for safety and effectiveness in children and teens. It works by blocking a specific pathway involved in migraines.
    • Other New Oral Medications: Different forms and combinations of existing migraine medications that might offer better relief with fewer side effects.

    Intravenous (IV) Treatments

For severe migraines or when quick relief is needed, IV treatments can be given in a clinical setting. These may include:

    • Dihydroergotamine (DHE): A well-known IV treatment that can quickly relieve acute migraine symptoms.
    • New Investigational IV Treatments: New IV medications are currently being studied for their effectiveness in treating pediatric migraines.

    Eligibility Criteria

To join our pediatric migraine clinical trials, candidates must:

    • Be between 6 and 17 years old.
    • Have a history of migraines, with at least one migraine per month for the past three months.
    • Undergo a medical evaluation to make sure they meet all safety requirements for the study.
