Discover FibroScan®: Your Gateway to Liver Health
Visit us to receive a complimentary FibroScan at AGA Clinical Trials in Hialeah, FL. A FibroScan is an exam of your liver similar to an ultrasound used to determine your liver health. A FibroScan is quick, painless, and performed in our clinic. The test provides immediate results.
Why is a FibroScan done?
When other tests indicate that your liver may not be working properly, a doctor may want to do a FibroScan to more accurately understand your liver’s health status.
A Fibroscan helps:
- Ascertain the amount of fat harbored within your liver
- Gauge the extent of fibrosis and/or cirrhosis (scarring)
- Allows you to pre-screen for future clinical trials in NASH or NASLD, if desired
Who would benefit from a FibroScan?
Any patient with one or more of the following risk factors is at a greater risk for developing fatty liver disease. Fatty liver disease does not have symptoms.
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Sleep Apnea
- Age > 50
- High Cholesterol
- Hypertension
- Hispanic, African American or Asian ethnicity
- BMI > 30
- Excessive alcohol consumption
How do you prepare for a FibroScan?
To have a FibroScan you will not be able to eat or drink anything for 3 hours before the test. You may not have a FibroScan exam if you have any of the following:
- an implanted electrical device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, or
- patients with insulin pumps may have a FibroScan as long as the electronic part is removed before the exam
- if you are pregnant
How is a FibroScan performed?
FibroScan is a simple, painless exam that involves you lying on your back with your right arm raised behind your head. The technician will apply a water-based gel to your skin on the right side of your body at the rib cage and apply a probe with slight pressure. Ten consecutive measurements are taken at the same location, concluding the exam.
What happens after a FibroScan is done?
After the exam, you may go back to your normal activities immediately. There is no downtime or recovery period needed after a FibroScan. A study investigator or physician will interpret the FibroScan report and review the results with you.
